Renunciation
25. *Renunciation
Dictionary Definition: Renunciation means abandonment. A literal translation would be "laying everything down". (Wikipedia)
My Definition: It is about disentangling oneself from the unsatisfactory and moving with determination toward what matters most. It is about freedom and meaning.
Journal Entry January 16th: Many days after returning to school this semester I have found myself wanting to get away from all of the drama and dukkha that comes with college and the unsatisfactory people I surround myself (not to be mean). I find myself alone, reading a lot or just thinking of all the goals I have for myself. I hope to try and apply this to my life more throughout the semester.
Journal Entry February 26th: Loved this quote from class today, “We see that our “higher self” is speculative at best and imaginary to begin with. Because of this we feel uneasy and anxious, even at the best of times. It is only when we completely abandon clinging that we feel any relief from our queasiness.” For me, craving, letting go, and renunciation all go hand in hand.

Samsara
26. Samsara
Dictionary Definition: Within Buddhism, samsara is defined as the continual repetitive cycle of birth, death, and bardo that arises from ordinary beings' grasping and fixating on a self and experiences. Samsara arises out of ignorance and is characterized by dukkha In the Buddhist view, liberation from samsara is possible by following the Buddhist path. (Wikipedia)
My Definition: The redundant cycle of birth, death, and the in between. I believe that you are reborn if you have dukkha left over after you die in the previous cycle.
Journal Entry: The Buddha reached enlightenment underneath the Bodhi tree. He had returned in another cycle of Samsara because he had a small amount of dukkha left over after death in his previous life. By ending the dukkha left over and not creating any new dukkha in his current life, he was able to sit and reach enlightenment.

Sangha
27. Sangha
Dictionary Definition: Meaning "association", "assembly," "company" or "community" and most commonly refers in Buddhism to the monastic community of ordained Buddhist monks or nuns. Sangha. Community. This word has two levels of meaning: (1) on the ideal (arya) level, it denotes all of the Buddha’s followers, lay or ordained, who have at least attained the level of srotapanna; (2) on the conventional (samvtri) level, it denotes the orders of the Bhiksus and Bhiksunis. (Wikipedia)
My Definition: The Buddhist community. I want to point out thought that it is not necessary to be a monk or a nun in order to be a part of the Buddhist community. It is just necessary to believe and want to be a part of the Buddhist sangha.
